Daily 5-Minute, Low-Tox Makeup Routine

If you’re someone who would like to transition to a low-tox makeup routine, here are some of the best products that I use daily and the routine only takes 5 minutes!

According to research done by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), between cosmetics, perfumes, personal care products, and feminine hygiene products, the average woman in the US applies an average of 168 chemicals to their face and body, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Yep, you read that right.

That’s a whole lot of chemicals and toxins, many of which are proven to be carcinogenic and directly cause cancer. The beauty industry is halfway to being a trillion-dollar industry. It’s a shame that brands aren’t transparent or ethical about the chemicals they use to create the products that so many women use every single day.

That’s why it’s up to you…

As the consumer, to learn about what products you’re using and what is harmful to your health. I started on this journey or transitioning to using more clean products when I became pregnant with my firstborn. I was on a mission to learn about how I could reduce my own exposure to harmful toxins as well as exposure to my developing baby.

I highly recommend checking out this blog post by Jordan Lee Dooley: 7 Must-Watch Documentaries on the Beauty Industry. She talks about 7 different documentaries you can watch to learn more bout the truth behind this industry.

I’m all for looking good and feeling good.

However, I do 100% believe that we can still look good and feel even better by reducing the amount of toxins we are consuming every day. The skin absorbs everything you put on it and it goes into the bloodstream and can then affect your hormones and organs etc. It’s so wonder there are so many diseases and illnesses popping up left and right nowadays!

This post is all about what’s in my makeup bag and my everyday, 5-minute makeup routine using all clean products by reliable, honest, and transparent brands that don’t test on animals and use clean, less harmful ingredients. One of my favorite places to shop for clean beauty products is Credo Beauty. You can use this link for $10 off your order.

Best Low-Tox Makeup Products:

1. Primer

This primer is great because you can just order refills when you run out, which saves plastic. I’m all for being environmentally conscious where you can. It’s super lightweight and does a great job at helping your makeup go on smoothly and last longer throughout the day. I do about two pumps of this after I put on my moisturizer, and before I put on my foundation.

2. Foundation

I was using Alastin Hydratint for the longest time and recently switched to this Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint which has great reviews. I am really enjoying it. It has a really nice amount of coverage, without being cakey at all. I also find that it lasts well throughout the day.

ilia

Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40

I use the shade Ora ST6, for light-medium skin and provides light coverage with a natural, dewy finish.

3. Concealer

I love this concealer so much. It goes on so well, blends great, and never creases for me. I have ordered so many of these over the past couple of years and don’t feel a need to change any time soon!

ilia

True Skin Serum Concealer

I use the shade Chicory, which blends in with a creamy, creaseless stretch to instantly reduce the appearance of dark circles, discoloration, and blemishes.

4. Setting Powder

This setting powder goes on after my foundation and concealer to lock everything into place and create a smooth, poreless canvas before I put on my powders like bronzer and blush. What’s great about this one is that it’s talc-free.

Talc is bad for you because it’s been found to contain the known carcinogen asbestos, which is why it should be avoided in powders and other personal care products. Unfortunately, even with that being known, talc is still found in many very popular big-name brand-setting powders. But not this one! Which is why I love it!

ilia

Soft Focus Finishing Powder

This loose-setting powder blurs the look of pores and sweeps away excess oil, leaving skin with a softfocus finish.

5. Bronzer

As you can see, I’m a huge fan of the brand Ilia for low-tox makeup products. I’ve been using this bronzer for some time and I really like it. It blends well and gives a nice and natural warm glow, which Lord knows we can all use during those winter months!

ilia

NightLite Bronzing Powder

I use the shade Novelty, which is a Medium to Deep Tan clean, talc-free, finely milled powder that delivers a natural bronzed look.

6. Blush

I am loving this blush by RMS Beauty! This brand is so great about reducing plastic by allowing you to purchase replacements for your containers versus having to buy the entire container every time. It’s also more cost-effective! This blush is so beautiful because it has a beautiful silky finish that looks so feminine and soft.

ReDimension Hydra Powder Blush

I use the shade French Rose. This blush is talc-free and comes in a refillable container. It’s a creamy powder blush that melts into the skin, creating a gorgeous smooth and silky finish.

7. Highlighter

This highlighter is a cream-based which I like because it looks much more natural. I also like using this on “no makeup” days just to give a little natural pop of somethin on the cheekbones. I usually apply this on my cheek bones, brow bone, and sometimes even on the inner corner of my eye lid to brighten my eyes.

Luminizer

I use the shade, Champagne Rose. This cream-based highlighter awakens the skin with a beautiful, natural light-reflective and dewy glow.

8. Eyebrows

I love this eyebrow pencil, which is honestly a total dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills at half the price. It’s great because it’s so fine that you can really draw hair-like strokes that look super natural to subtly fill in your brows. It goes on beautifully and stays on throughout the day.

nyx

Vegan Micro Eyebrow Pencil

I use the shades Ash Brown and Taupe to shape and fill in sparse eyebrows. This pencil allows you to achieve the most precise, hair-like strokes with its ultra-thin size.

9. Eyeliner

I’ve been using this eyeliner on my upper lid and am loving it. I apply it directly and then use a super thin angled brush to buff it out and create a sharp wing. It spreads easily, yet also stays in place throughout the day. I love the brown color too because it looks really natural on the upper lid in my opinion.

ilia

Clean Line Gel Liner

I use the shade, Dusk Brown. This eyeliner glides effortlessly and blends easily before setting, and once set, it stays put. It’s richly pigmented and water-resistant, this formula is great because it has the precision of a pencil with the ease of a gel. I use a brush to smear it out.

10. Mascara

ilia

Limitless Lash Mascara

I use the shades Ash Brown and Taupe to shape and fill in sparse eyebrows. This pencil allows you to achieve the most precise, hair-like strokes with its ultra-thin size.

11. Setting Spray

I love spritzing this setting spray after I’m done with all of my makeup to set my face and keep everything in place. It also helps to keep the skin hydrated since sometimes layering all of the products can be drying on the skin and cause caking or flaking. I do a few sprays of this stuff and feel refreshed and ready to go about my day! My favorite way to close out the end of my low-tox makeup routine!
